Elena Rybakina (KAZ) made history in New York, capturing her first US Open title and rising to world No.1 for the first time in her career.
The victory marks Rybakina’s third Grand Slam singles title, following Wimbledon in 2022 and the Australian Open earlier this year. She has now won two of the season’s four Grand Slam tournaments.
Finding a Way Back
Rybakina’s path to the title repeatedly tested her composure. Playing with the VCORE 100, she recovered from an opening-set deficit in both the quarterfinals and semifinals, finding a way through difficult moments to reach her first US Open final.
Throughout the tournament, Rybakina spoke about the emotions she experiences on court. Although she feels them intensely, she chooses not to show them because she does not want her opponent to know what she is feeling.
That approach was evident throughout her run in New York. When matches became difficult, Rybakina continued to reset, refocus and find a way back into the match.
In the championship match, Rybakina combined patience with decisive attacking play. After narrowly dropping the second set, she quickly regained control in the third and sealed the title with an ace.
Reflecting on her history in New York, Rybakina said she had been coming to the tournament for years without finding success.
“I’m falling in love with New York more and more,” she said. “These are amazing memories for me.”
Across two weeks in New York, Rybakina rarely revealed what she was feeling. Instead, she kept returning her attention to the next point.
That focus carried her through the biggest moments of the tournament and ultimately to her first US Open title, her third Grand Slam crown and the world No.1 ranking for the first time in her career.
